ACE Bristol

St Mungos has been running the Assertive Contact and Engagement service (ACE) in Bristol since 2014.

ACE reaches out to people and groups who face complex barriers to accessing services.

The ACE team works with people from different communities in Bristol, including the LGBTQI+ community, asylum seekers and refugees, rough sleepers, parents, and those with risky drug and alcohol use.

We accept referrals for people who:

• Are not currently engaged with mental health or support services.

• May have frequent contact with crisis and/or emergency services.

• Face complex social or cultural barriers to engaging with mental health support.

Our approach

At ACE we believe in meeting clients where they are, so we offer a flexible outreach approach as well as open access support at a variety of locations. We support clients to engage with mental health services via the NHS or in the community, and can also provide psychological therapy alongside our engagement work.

We are committed to keeping the ACE service accessible to clients from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and have language specialist engagement workers as well as well-being groups focused on specific communities and cultural backgrounds.

ACE also provides training for community groups and services in the Bristol area on how to work with individuals with mental health issues.

What's the impact?

ACE has worked with over 1700 clients over the past eight years. In 2022 we worked with almost 200 clients and had over 350 attendances to our wellbeing groups. Our training team delivered 37 trainings, reaching 420 participants from VCSE, Bristol City Council and other support services.

In our most recent client survey 87% of clients surveyed answered ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ to five questions rating their experience of the service.
