Stephen Smith was Board and Executive Director of the National Audit Office from 2015 to 2020. Prior to this, he was a partner with KPMG where he provided restructuring advice to governments and banks, and  led KPMG’s European Transaction Services mergers and acquisitions support business. Currently Stephen is a board member with Orbit Housing Group where he chairs the Audit and Risk Committee. He was a trustee of Combat Stress, the veterans’ mental health charity, from 2012 to 2017.  As well as his commercial and financial analytical skills, Stephen brings experience of the social housing, banking contracting and professional services sectors.
